This shows true when the National Merit SemiFinalists come out. English is doubled (so it’s more important) and yet still Blair beats all the other schools. However, RMIB is a great program in a beautiful school.

No there are more than 100 acceptances. There are 100 or 125 spots but they overaccept knowing some will turn them down.
They overaccept a lot more than Blair SMAC which accepts right around 100 because it's so rare kids will turn them down.

I thought it was 125 magnet starting 9th grade.

Anyone in RM cluster can join in 11th grade (if they have the grades and teacher recs). I don't think this counts in magnet admit numbers.

My kid got in this year with strong MAP scores in both math and ELA, a mix of interests and volunteer work and an essay with a strong hook that showcased interests in language, arts and STEM.

He turned it down in favor of SMCS.

I have an 8th grader in of the magnet and know a handful of the kids admitted to RM. I'd say the thing they have in common is being "well balanced" between math and ELA and likely having pretty strong essays.


This makes sense to me. I have two kids, both with excellent grades. One didn’t get in a few years ago and the other one just got in for this coming fall. She is a very strong writer so I think that definitely made a difference.

There's no single metric, so there's no simple answer to that question. But the 100/8000 number is suboptimal for a lot of reasons, not least because all 8000 are not applying.

It's about 125, used to be 25 set aside seats for RM in bound but I don't know if that part is still true. I hear different things about that.
