How does getting/knowing an exact IQ score help, beyond qualifying for services? My kids have widely various levels of performance in math, reading, writing, etc.

Why not academia? Have you ever walked into the office of a college professor?
Old academia was more add friendly. New academia is more heavily bureaucratic, selecting for dot the i and cross the t types.

Why not programming?
NP - system administration and operations is probably better than pure programming, because if you're working on something big, holding everything in working memory gets difficult. Plus there's more for adrenaline junkies to latch onto.

My child has ADHD and DC's IQ is in the 99.5%. DC was tested on medication. If you want a clear before/after, I don't have that. Other than to say the WISC was nominally higher than the Cogat, which was at the 98% level. If anything, I think the meds are helping.
