Yes. I rub a mixture of salt and vinegar over the chicken and rinse with water in a colander. I do not pat dry as the water drips out sufficiently.

I then clean my sink and counter with soap and water. Wipe with vinegar spray.

Why is water getting on your counter?


3 feet around the sink is considered the splash zone. Droplets of water (with chicken bacteria in them) can aerosolize and land on the counter.

My husband washes it in the sink, then pats it dry with a towel. Then he cleans the entire sink with soap and rinse.

I know you do not need to, but I don’t like the juice on a chicken it’s slimy. It’s easier to Pat dry chicken after a rinse.

So yes I do but you don’t have to. It’s a preference.

Best not to. You end up with contaminated sink and dirt water spray. Cooking is what cleans it.

Yes. I rinse it off. That was the guidance when I was learning to cook. Somewhere along the way that guidance changed though, and they told people not to rinse/wash their poultry. So technically you both are right, depending on what guidance you listen to.
