+1 My 6th grader couldn’t type in the end of 3rd when they went virtual. They had to type everything in 4th when they were remote, so they just developed it. I’m surprised your now 5th grader didn’t experience similar in 3rd unless you were in person in private that year.

NitroType, but my kid does not type. Kid has a strange pecking process that seems to work for him.

As far as I know, they just picked it up. I have two in HS, both can type proficiently with correct finger placement. They may have done some practice/games with extra time at school, but never a class or dedicated time at home.

Mine are also old enough that they didn’t have their own device at school or to take home until 5th for oldest (stayed at school through MS, has her own laptop at HS) and my youngest had his own take home device starting in 6th.

OP here - my kid would kill me if I did that to her, LOL!!

I learned how to type using Typing Tutor on my Apple IIe computer. I don't think Typing Tutor exists anymore, but I'll look at some of what others have mentioned (also your kid's keyboarding camp probably used an app!)

We found a free program online. Maybe typing.com? My kid did the summer after 5th grade, I think.

Video games. He doesn't even look down, ever. I've been a bad parent.
I took 3 years of typing in high school on typewriter and still can't type.
Asked my kid and he said typing.com on Clever.
He came to read and said that I wasn't a bad parent.

None needed.

Just sit down and start writing something: an essay or story, or email and chats with friends and family.

Looking for the best way to teach my 5th grader how to type this summer. What apps are the best for this?
