You're venting it out the roof, right? It's the only way to go. Don't go to all the trouble of getting rid of your microwave just to install a filtered recirculating fan that doesn't get rid of the exhaust.


It vents to an external wall right now.

I want to pull the microwave hood combo in our new house and replace it with a proper hood since the range is a very nice new gas one (I know…I’ve heard about how I’m dying and killing my children and pets in the process). I don’t think having a microwave over the range is practical or safe and it means the one appliance my kids can use relatively safely is literally out of reach. How small a microwave can I get away with, if I don’t pull out a cabinet and place it there instead? We mostly just reheat individual portioned leftovers and microwave popcorn. I don’t cook large quantities very often in it (maybe when warming things for holidays?).
