I'd imagine that people who want a lot of land, perhaps even a farm, plus Florida weather and no state income tax would like the rural areas. The exurbs are a draw for the same reason anyone moves to any exurb...good schools, decent amount of space, lower than close-in prices.

This sounds wrong. Housing in rural Florida is incredibly cheap compared to even the exurbs in the DMV. Even non-rural Florida, in places like Gainesville, Tampa, Cape Canaveral can be less expensive than comparable neighborhoods in this area. Sure, you will pay more for square footage, proximity to beaches and nice downtowns, and better schools, but it's all still less expensive than the DMV.

OP here. I’m talking about in mostly landlocked areas with no industry

Are you just looking at the house square footage and ignoring that the listing in rural areas includes tons of acreage?

You can shoot stuff riding on your ATV and no one is the wiser.

You mean in the horsey parts of the state? Or where specifically are you thinking of?

Home prices remain through the roof in very nondescript parts of Florida. What is the draw? Is it the weather?
