UGA is similar to UVA in the fact ismf you live in a good part of the state, in particular the high income areas of Atl, there's a quota on admissions and the competition is tough.

DH was transferred to Dobbins. It wasn’t by choice. I thought it was pretty selective, so I was surprised to see that's not really case?
I think it is the case, they had a 35% acceptance rate this year which is pretty selective.

Good, so it did change last year. It was ridiculous for UGA to not show preference for state residents. Georgia does not need to import talent like Alabama, Mississippi, & Arkansas because the state is overloaded with sophisticated, highly educated families.

Unless this changed within the last year or so, the University of Georgia does not give preference to Georgia residents; however, Georgia Tech does.

Yeah, UGA is both a terrific school and most GA residents who are admitted get free or almost free rides. Great option and most kids' take it. If you have money, pay for nice apartments, greek life there and grad school.

A few years ago, my nephew was wait-listed with a 1450 SAT score, but grades were middle of the class.

The University of Georgia is a well respected state public university. Almost tuition free for Georgia residents who are admitted. Competitive admissions. Arguably has the best honors college in the nation. Athens is one of the best college towns in the country.

My friend is an admissions counselor for University of Alabama and his territory is ATL (he lives there) and tells me UGA is extremely competitive these days. You need super high GPA and test scores. And if you are OOS even harder. Kids go to Mama when they can't get into UGA.

We recently moved to the Atlanta area. Kids are in private school which boasts a 100% graduation rate. All well and good, but when I looked at the universities in question, upward of 75% of graduated students ended up at UGA. I found this concerning. What's their reputation? Is it somewhere most people would happy to send their kid?
