Anyway, shame on y’all for trying to blame the school system for something that’s clearly a failure of society as a whole.
While you are correct that this is a failure of society (and the parents), ACPS does deserve part of the blame. It's now well documented that the school shutdowns caused a massive mental health crisis for school kids. There is a clear link between the self medicating drug use (and the violence) and the school shutdowns.
ACPS stayed closed to kids longer than most districts. Even then school board member Ramee Gentry, in one of the few times she challenged Hutchings and central office, said that ACPS' reopening plan was behind, subpar and embarrassing.
ACPS deserves some blame here.
This student’s issues did not occur because school buildings were closed. This world is a trash heap, between the regression into fascism, the environment literally on fire and the rich richer than ever while the rest of us fight for scraps.
Schools are not and should not be the #1 factor in a child’s mental health. No other developed country has such a laughable safety net as ours; throw in easy access to drugs and guns and it’s a wonder more people aren’t dead.
This forum is a godawful pit.
