Schools are not and should not be the #1 factor in a child’s mental health. No other developed country has such a laughable safety net as ours; throw in easy access to drugs and guns and it’s a wonder more people aren’t dead.

What does the city do? As far as I am concerned, both the city and ACPS do a poor job of addressing youth programming and interventions. There are tons of federal and state grants, foundation grants, and private-partnerships (hello, Amazon!) with funding to provide for positive youth development programs and interventions and resources. Why not partner with Inova Children's or Virginia Hospital Center or Children's? Why not have a partnership for youth sports with ASA or Little League or AAU basketball or NCAP swimming? George Washington University operates a community counseling in the Caryle neighborhood and Neighborhood Health has tons of programming. But what is the city or school division doing?

2 ODs at school this week so far. 1 dead. Tragic, but I don’t think can blame schools, bigger forces at work.
