My religion requires me to get paid $100K per year.

Unfortunately, the teacher can’t join MCEA due to religious convictions. I feel like admin knew which of us to pick on.

What does MCEA have to do with religion?

Some religions, or factions or certain religions (Jehovah's witness, seventh day adventist) prohibit union membership.

They should still have the benefits of the union though at least according to MD law. But yes, unfortunately, they may have gotten caught in a tight spot due to a content specialist and principal that doesn't consider their staff's preferences. This absolutely should have been a conversation. They can give this person 3 preps, but if they have successfully completed their 2nd year at MCPS they should be able to apply to another school if they wish. I'm so sorry. I'd fight it. I had a CS that tried to get me to do 3 preps, 2 brand new to me and the school when I was a 2nd-year teacher. I left that school. It was poorly run and had lots of turnover.

Yes, 3 preps is allowed. I taught sped self-contained and co-taught math for 3 years and had 4-5 preps (which wasn't allowed, but I didn't know that at first). Because I was teaching the self-contained math classes, I had math 6, math 7, and alg. prep, and then a resource class, and a co-taught math class. My grade level counterparts only 1-2 preps since they had one grade level. My solution - I moved to another school when they refused to reduce my workload to less than 4 preps.

Oh, wow! That’s horrible. Is it at least your choice on some level? I know some people agree to teach three electives to keep their 1.0 position.

That is just unimaginable. I’m so sorry that happened to you.

I’ve had three preps voluntarily, but this teacher was tentatively assigned three without so much as a discussion.

My DH teaches High school and has 3 preps. It's exhausting.

What subject?

It’s one of the four cores. The teacher is also SPED certified and has previously taught three preps, but only had four self-contained classes. This would be three preps with five total Gen Ed classes.
