If after Memorial Day, go to King Family vineyard on Sunday and there will be a polo match going on in the background. Barboursville has the best wine, a cool little ruin and a good restaurant on the fancier side, but it’s a hike from the other vineyards. The wine at Keswick Vineyards is pretty good too, casual vibe (not to be confused with Keswick Hall, a former country-club-turned-hotel. Nice rooms but visually the grounds have a corporate, golfy vibe. I’m a huge Jean-Georges fan but was a little underwhelmed by the food at Marigold, his new resto there….But the staff were AWESOME and thoughtful, and overall still a great time.)
Clifton was incredible until the ownership changed hands; the decor now is like a Hyatt Place collab with Instagram influencers (literally - the wallpaper in their front hall was making the rounds on Insta as “DREAM LAUNDRY ROOM WALLPAPER I DIE” etc.) The tennis court has been converted into a perma-wedding tent. I got married there before all that went down, so I would still eat there, but it doesn’t have that “Virginia wine country” charm for me anymore. Very much agree that Veritas’ farmhouse is adorable, but it might be hard to book on a weekend, now that wedding season is upon us.
Other food ideas, recommend making resy at C&O, and wander around the downtown pedestrian mall for the great used bookstores, cute wine shop and Men’s shop, and to grab drinks elsewhere before or after your meal. Or you could eat elsewhere on the DT mall and get a drink after dinner at the speakeasy in C&O’s basement. If you’re already walking around the Corner and UVA Grounds, Farm Bell is cute for brunch, but I wouldn’t go out of the way to eat there. If you’re a sweets person, swing by Gearheart’s chocolate on your way out and pick up a souvenir to take home, yum. Monticello is a fun stop too if you’ve never been. Happy anniversary! Hope you have an awesome time.

Fantastic, thank you

I love Boars Head but it is not luxury. This is not a minus from me, I’d call it high end. Great sports amenities and nice rooms. The Mill Room restaurant is lovely. Just a bit too big and busy to be true luxury.

Stay at keswick or Clifton inn but also visit Merrie Mill Vineyard. King family Vineyard is another good one

I've been intrigued with Barboursville Winery, which now has lodging/restaurant. Planning to go in the fall but can't report on how luxurious it is or isn't yet.

Not Charlottesville, but the Inn at Little Washington is truly luxurious.

Check out Veritas. It is a great winery in a beautiful setting. It also has an amazing "inn/B&B" with amazing food and you can stay the night. I went there for a yoga retreat a few years ago and was very impressed.

Planning anniversary weekend trip & planning on doing the Charlottesville area. What are top places to stay? Any notable experiences? Best wineries? TIA
