Subject: Are melons good yet?
If the label says somewhere in South America or greenhouse grown it should be ripe, otherwise it’ll have been in cold storage all year and be pretty tasteless.

My dh got a mini watermelon at Safeway a few days ago that was the best watermelon I have ever tasted.

Fun fact: cantaloupes won’t ripen much after they are removed from the vine, so it’s important to pick a good looking one before you buy it

No. And in this country, even when they're ripe, they still don't taste great. Same for apricots. These are the two fruits I miss from my home country of France. I get a better overall variety of fruits here, though.

Nope, got cantaloupe at Sam’s club on 2 separate occasions and they were gross. I let them sit on the counter for 2 days and still hard as a rock and absolutely not flavor whatsoever. Tossed. Want a waste. I will wait for Summee.

Just had a personal watermelon. Not summer ripe but still good/sweet. And cost a lot more than it would in summer.

Two weeks ago my watermelon from Costco tasted fine, but had an odd, firm texture. I got another one last week from Costco, and it was delicious.

It’s much too early for melons, you’ll probably need to wait until June before they are ripe in southern Florida and closer to August before you find anything local.
