Depends upon why OP's child is attracted to both schools. If attracted by superior academics and brilliant, high-achieving, ambitious classmates, then the schools are quite similar.

Would need more specific information. As presented, same likelihood of admission to either school.

Might be worth thinking about using the TJ Stem advantage in applying ED to another less targeted school so that your child's application really stands out from an academic perspective. Not trying to crush a dream; just trying to inject another viewpoint.

Unrelated to the question but OP please make sure your kid has safeties they like. I wish them the best with Stanford and Princeton but it's good to prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

You can only do 1 SCEA app and can't apply early to any other private school.

OP, these campuses look and feel different and are on opposite coasts. Maybe those practical aspects might be the swaying factor. Does TJ have higher success at one early? Also, applying early is a double edged sword. If app isn't stunning, it could result in a rejection rather than deferral. Seems like more are rejecting rather than deferring early these days. Happened to mine last year. She revised app, added awards and had great admits in RD, but the extra time was needed to take her app over the top. Good luck! Might have had the chance at the early school if she had waited for RD even though numbers would indicate opposite. But at this tier, even w/ ED, there isn't a major bump for early because early admits include recruited athletes, legacy/donors, Questbridge, etc.

Do more kids at TJ or in the DMV apply to Stanford or Princeton? I wonder if more east coast kids would prefer Princeton instead of going to California

Because you can't do both Early Action. One or t'other.

Both Stanford and Princeton have restricted early action programs (along with Harvard Yale and some others). Cannot apply to any other school ED or EA if apply early to Stanford or Princeton

Older sib attends HYM, but this child dream schools are Stanford and Princeton and doesn’t want to try ED at other schools that offer it (although have heard ED helps but EA not so much)
