Physical violence is absolutely abnormal, and a huge red flag. What do you think is going on? How much sleep is he getting? Does he need a more consistent routine? His behavior needs to be your priority right now. He must learn that he will obey his parents. Is his father at home?

My daughter had massive tantrums at 12 months when she dropped all naps. Every evening at 6pm, she would go off like a siren during dinner because she was overtired. I would put her in her room, shut the door and wait 30 minutes. Luckily she never banged her head on the floor or anything like that. Just wailed like a banshee.

Then after 6 months of that she never had a tantrum ever again.

I mean, she just turned 13. Now we're approaching teen tantrums, I guess, but she has yet to have one of those!

I would be worried if my two year old did not act like this.

FWIW, my DS at 2 had epic tantrums (meltdowns) where he would shriek and flail for 1-2 hours (I watched the clock).

I now know where the idea of demonic possession came from.

(He did later get several diagnoses. That's not normal.)

Thank you. My family has hidden addictions...meaning good at keeping them private. I have an addictive personality, so maybe that is why I am triggered. Will order the book now. I feel like I'm about to crack.

I have sympathy for the stresses of being a FTM but this title is hilarious. Perils of a spooky baby... skeleton baby... vampire toddler...

What do you mean your 2 yr old is "scaring" you?

Eh, the 2-3 year range is when they start testing boundaries. There are also crazy growth spurts both emotional and physical, so processing everything can be tough and manifests in acting out. And they can't articulate so identifying big feelings or trying to find a way to say "I'm hangry" just isn't in their vocabulary, so throwing a tantrum is what it is.

Haven’t you heard of the terrible twos? This is most likely totally normal. Talk to your pediatrician if you are really concerned, but kids can be like this through the preschool years. If it’s still happening on a daily basis in kindergarten, get them checked out.

This is a very broad description so honestly hard to make any recommendations. If you are really worried go over to the special needs forum but you need to provide more info if you're truly concerned otherwise sounds like a 2yo throwing a tantrum. ie, need to know how long, how often, etc instead of just generally saying kicking, screaming, wailing.
