Talking to one now would help actually. They can walk you through the process (signing up early for tours, interviews, etc). You will also want to identify what schools you want to apply to and their requirements (such as tests, etc). A consultant would also help you identify what schools to apply to and give you a broad range and with hope, realistic expectations.

No, do your own research using Google and yes, DCUM. I found DCUM when I was researching schools. I also had meetings with several friends who had been through the private school application process. They gave me all of the info I needed. Child is at a Big 3 and got into all of the schools we targeted.

Useless. Its so easy to do your own research.

We used one for HS. I don’t think it’s particularly helpful, but your needs may be different.

This. Consultants’ value is in helping you understand the options, maybe suggesting schools you didn’t think of or warning you about possible concerns or issues, rather than in really shepherding the application process. And they can’t pull any strings to help you get in.
