So she wants a team sport? Shed be great for pole vaulting .
Almost no team sports where being small is an advantage and not a hindrance. Diving, gymnastics etx

Not especially. Her biggest asset seems to be that she's aggressive and determined.

I'm absolutely going to let her play anything she wants, but if someone told me that something like lacrosse or field hockey or whatever was really friendly to a smaller stature kid, I'd introduce it as an option to try out.

Girls in her grade have started to growth spurt, so some look like teens and she still looks like a 2nd grader. It's becoming a big gap to overcome with just determination and I think she still has a few years before she catches up at all.

She can cox a rowing team in the future. Starts in eighth grade, I believe.

Let her play whatever she wants regardless of stature.

-4'10" adult who was so small her parents wouldn't let her play any sport until the 3rd grade. (Played SS and then 2nd base in softball, PG in basketball, and ran track-they just called me "scrappy" which I took as a complement. )

Honestly, her height shouldn't be an issue for any sport in high school. Even for basketball, there are point guards playing varsity in competitive girls' programs that are under 5'4".

My daughter absolutely loves aggressive sports and being competitive, but is the youngest in her grade and is small for her age. Right now she's 50" tall and in 4th grade--for those who don't think in inches, she wears a size 7/8 girls. She might not seem quite so small if we'd redshirted, but being the youngest on every team makes her seem even smaller (relatively).

I'd love for her to continue playing sports into high school, but know that sports are only going to get more competitive in middle school. What sports should she consider where her smaller stature won't be a big disadvantage?

(Given family genetics and her growth curve, we expect that she's going to max out at 5'1-5'3", so it's probably not a temporary issue.)
