Well, as OP mentioned the race(s) involved - White, Hispanic and Asian - it seems that it is very common. Best course of action would be to make a stink about it - teacher, administrator, counselor and PTA. This behavior is not to be tolerated. In my DC's school - PTA, admin, parents would send out emails on parent groups and remind kids to not share results or tease one another. before the results came out. This one email reminder saw that no such meanness happened. It can change the culture of the school.

OP here. I'm not trying to argue here. This was not a one time incident. Kid told me it has happened on multiple occasions since coming back from spring break.

If this happened multiple times, you really need to contact the teacher and the Principal. There is absolutely no doubt here that the school needs to call in these students and tell them to knock it off. We're in MCPS, and the schools there usually take bullying seriously.

I'm sorry this is happening to your child, OP. Please tell him that he is NOT stupid, and list all the things he does well, to make him feel better!

DS was at the receiving end. We reported it to the school counselor. Best decision.

I was not privy to what happened behind the scenes, but the kids parents called and apologized (Kid did that too). TBH . the kids parents had little/no insight on the child's behavior. IMHO .. by not informing the counselors, you are enabling the kid to continue with the bullying behavior. It needs to be nipped at the bud.

There is a reason that centers have this reputation. OP, I'd try to find a emersion program or some other way to get your kid to a non-center school. Centers are too us and them.

There really isn't all that much pressure in AAP.

Do these kids have a history of picking on your kid?
What was the broader context in which they said your son is stupid?
Did they drop it pretty quickly or was this prolonged teasing?
Were their comments directed specifically at your son or at everyone who isn’t going into AAP?
Did your son tell an adult at school, and if so, how was it handled?
Is your son more upset about kids being mean to him or is he upset because he’s actually worried that they think he’s stupid?
Did he stay upset or has he gotten over it?

I don’t have enough information to know whether I’d talk to anyone at school about it.

Of course you didn't apply. AAP is for your kid, not you.

Of course AAP is for the kid, but you are the driving force behind test prep, staged work samples, and $400 WISC tests to get your kid in.

Why didn't you apply? I think the kid should choose for themselves. I know that a lot of kids are really upset with regular classes

For non-center schools it ends when the aap kids leave in 3rd. That’s why people advise families with kids in gen Ed to avoid centers as base schools
