I bought the Cartwright Powder Room Vanity Sink with the marble top and medicine cabinet. The first problem - the hardware to open the medicine cabinet broke; then we noticed the paint on the vanity was peeling off any where you would wipe to clean. About a year later while brushing my teeth a small plastic cup fell in the sink and caused a huge crack and whole. What a piece of junk..... I've called RH too see if they'll warranty it; they asked me to send pictures - which I did, but I haven't heard back.

Beware of the Restoration Hardware Cartwright Vanity in white painted finish. It has a terrible paint job. First unit was poorly painted and an attempted putty patch at the vendor left it sticky and uneven looking. Complained and got a second unit shipped. Same problem, but the unit was not patched, just had cracked paint job. All of the corners in the panels of the doors have cracks. Expect that you will want to repaint it. The overrall finish is not distressed, and the piece is not marketed as distressed. This was not shipping damage, it's just bad quality. It should be a simple vanity for a classic look with an even and unworn paint job. For the price from Restoration Hardware, this should be a good quality product.

Bought the carrara marble toppped hotel double sink vanity behemoth at the end of 2008; installed it in 2009 at the end of our high end master bathroom renovation. The sink looked great (initially) with the marble floor and subway tile and we took good care of it diligently wiping the marble top to prevent etching etc. In reality we should have worried about the poor white paint finish on its base. My husband first noticed some cracking of the paint following a few minor water spills. It was not anything too unsightly, so we let it go. A couple months ago my 4 year old son obsessed with personal hygiene broke into the bathroom, sloppily brushed his teeth with Arm&Hammer toothpaste and smeared some of it on the vanity base. I wiped it off with a wet wash cloth no more than 20 minutes later only to find out that the toothpaste completely dissolved the paint (as in took it off like paint solvent). I was shocked but blamed it on my rigorous cleaning technique. About a week ago the same kid wiped his toothpaste covered hands on the vanity again. This time we were super careful at cleanup but the paint came off just the same. Now the vanity has huge blotches of bare mdf and needs to be repainted, which presents a problem. How am I supposed to move a 400+ pound vanity to get it spray painted? Replacing it is not a option because the bathroom layout (as in plumbing, walls, lights) was planned around it and let's not forget about the $2000 investment!!!!! Frustrated I phoned Pottery Barn to complain about my situation. I am a long-time Pottery barn customer and own a bedroom set, a huge sectional couch, a foldout couch, an entryway bench, a desk, a bathroom wall cabinet and several more things that escape me at the moment; in addition I routinely purchase stuff from sister companies Williams-Sonoma and West Elm; I have been quite happy with all of my purchases. You'd think it would count for something. Not in my case. The pushback from 2 customer service reps ranged from questions like "Makes you wonder what you put on your teeth, doesn't it?" to " If it were a real problem it would have come up much earlier" and everything in between. I'd refrain from insulting Pottery Barn reps as I do not want my post to get censored, but I had to explain to a grown human being that the toothpaste does not strip the enamel off my teeth and that I normally do not smear toothpaste all over the vanity. However, if I were to do it, which is not an unlikely scenario for a piece of furniture that is designed to come in contact with tootpaste and water, I would expect the finish to withstand it,. The best they were able to offer is a referral to the Furniture Medic who would repaint it at my expense or a 5% discount on my future purchases, which is silly as as I get 10%+ discounts from them as routine promotions. I am livid and will not give any more of my business to Pottery Barn. The hotel vanity line has been replaced with other similar looking vanities likely from the same manufacturer. I suggest you test the paint finish before you buy.

Thanks - this is helpful. Which one do you have? Have you had to do anything to maintain the marble? Which color did you choose? Wish they were on sale now - it's a bit of a splurge for us but we really love the Cartwright single wide....


WE got the Turner Vanity before it was discontinued in a lighter cherry than the espresso with carrara marble - it looks very simiar to the Cartwright that you are getting except double sink. The ONLY issue I have had is that the doors are magnetized to shut - and shut loudly if you are not careful. WE've gotten tons of compliments and I think the marble looks great.

We have a Pottery Barn one in a basement bath. I think it is the Newport, white with a black granite countertop. It is great, very high quality, no problems at all. Only complaint is that the granite is thin but that's more cosmetic than functional. They are good deals compared to buying base and counter and sink separately (at least based on what we bought for other bathrooms, which wasnt home depot level). I wish we'd gotten one for our master bath because i like the furniture look more than the built in look for bathrooms.

I am considering buying a vanity from either Pottery Barn or (more likely) Restoration Hardware for my master bathroom. Does anyone have a vanity from either of these stores? Just wondering about the quality and how well they hold up. Also wondering about the marble tops and whether they need to be resealed often, if there are any maintenance issues, etc.
