Other ones I like:

Courtyard upper east side Yorkville for a neighborhood feel and being near museum mile.

Renaissance or residence inn Times Square for theater district.

I like to stay in the Chelsea are the 30s ish area so any of those are great.

The two Edition properties, JW Essex house, or the st Regis are food for upscale experiences

I’m one of the Marriott Marquis people - have you stayed there? If not, don’t knock it. We used to live NYC and yes as a general matter we avoid Times Square. But if you’re only there for a weekend and it’s right by the bway shows you’re seeing - it wasn’t bad. I’ve also stayed at residence inn in Manhattan and the giraffe and didn’t find those to be particularly better fwiw.

Came here to say Marriott Marquis. I’m lifetime elite with Marriott, just to say I’ve stayed at a lot of their hotels, incl in NY, and that’s my go-to. And the kids love the elevators there.

And I know Times Square is a tourist trap but my spouse is nyc born and raised, and we always stay there. She used to be skeptical about it, again being a New Yorker, but it’s just so convenient to grab a train to anywhere you want to go, and we’re Broadway fans, so it’s easy to walk to any theater.

We had a fine time at Marriott Marquis. We were seeing Hamilton and it was close to the theater is how we picked it.

For our first visit, we stayed at Marriott Marquis Times Square. Kids loved being in the middle of everything. For future trips, I'd pick someplace a little calmer like the ones pp suggested.

New York Marriott Downtown by the WTC. There are spectacular playgrounds on the water, and then this one behind the buildings:

Marriott Marquis is great at that age. After a lot of deliberating I booked it for a trip with my 8 year old this spring and it was absolutely perfect.

They won't let me book room w/ two adults and two kids. Love that hotel, though.

We recently stayed in the Marriott marquis and I thought it was nice. Big rooms and a fun location in Times Square.
