You take it in 7th.

Right. It's not easy to get placed in it as a 6th grader.

They qualify for Alg 1 due to home study or external classes.

Not true. TPMS absolutely will not move kids into algebra in 6th due to MAP scores.

Yes, they all take magnet investigations except those who come from a wealthy school that offers aim classes at their ES in fifth grade. I wouldn't describe them as outliers since many have lower map m scores than students from other schools.

I didn’t describe them as outliers. They just had the opportunity to take AIM a year early. There are very few of them and TPMS discourages it.

I thought it was automatic, but we did get a letter before the beginning of 7th grade confirming my kid was placed in magnet algebra. As far as I know no magnet student was placed elsewhere (apart from the kids who were placed in geometry in 7th).

There are a few that come from wealthy Potomac schools like Coldspring.

Enough with making it all up.

The only kids who take Algebra 1 in 6th come from an ES that offers AIM in 6th. The school generally frowns on this but won't make students repeat AIM. They prefer to go deeper than rushing kids through to Calc.

In the past on here they only allow aim except for a few outliers. Most of our kids doing algebra in 6th are doing it at the home schools. Mccpta put out a list of what schools allow it.

Just wondering what math your child is taking in 6th grade if going to Takoma park magnet program? Algebra 1 or AIM?
