OP here- I think trashed is a bit misused in that context. Lets give UA a round of applause for providing a choking hazard for a snack AND one of th messiest snacks on gods green earth besides unshelled peanuts/sunflower seeds.
And the behavior is not about the kids in either instance, its about our society's reaction to kids being kids and somehow holding them to a higher standard than adults.
Luckily, we don't allow guns or weapons on planes although I am sure that's in the not-too-distant future.
You want the airlines to not serve snacks that are choking hazards? The kid isn't flying alone.

+1 I’d be annoyed with a baby crying on a plane, sure. From the article it seemed like the plane also had delays due to weather so I’m sure everyone was on edge too. But a grown man screaming and carrying on? I’d be scared for my safety and the safety of the flight crew. People like that are unstable. The baby isn’t going to hurt anyone or cause an incident in the air or make us do an unscheduled landing due to safety … the adult very well might.

We took our DD on a 6 hour car ride when she was 2.5 and she could not stop puking from carsickness the entire ride.

We fly all the time and while we've dealt with screaming children, we've never dealt with an adult causing issues. People have different tolerance levels. I'd rather tune out a screaming baby with headphones and patience than deal with traffic or a 10 hr drive. There is nothing relaxing to me about being in the car for hours.

Well a train has multiple compartments and a bus can choose to stop. You are stuck on planes but overall planes are more frequently used than buses or trains.

I understand how awful the screaming or crying is but damn if this man isn't expecting more from the child than himself.

Kid could have an ear infection and they didn't know. So many things and people are just wild.
