Thank you for the help. She was with my daughter at a street festival and a guy was selling chances to win a cute little turtle. My mom let her pay for a chance and, of course, she won one. My mom didn’t know that they get very big and require extensive care. This guy had a lot of baby red ear sliders for people to win. Yeah, no great options. I saw them in the wild when we went down to Amelia Island…

You can try reaching out to Stahl veterinary practice or Pender and see if they have any suggestions of places you can re-home. If all else fails, as the rescue article linked above mentioned, both vet practices deal with exotics and could assist with humane euthanasia.

Pp who posted the turtle rescue link. I thought euthanizing was extreme but that turtle rescue site says to euthanize if out of options. I didn’t realize this breed was such a problem. OP, where did your mom get the turtle? Maybe they would take it back. Doesn’t seem likely though.

Because they are easy to release and very invasive, and almost no one wants to take care of a turtle for 20 years, so “rehoming” it would be wildly irresponsible?

Do you think there’s a happy home for all pets to live until they die of happiness or old age? Wake up and smell the invasive turtle soup. Your approach to this is just about stroking your own ego and never having to wrestle with the reality of subjugating animals in the first place.

Did your mom ask before she gott a turtle with a 20+ year life expectancy?? It is so much work to clean their tank and maintain everything. My daughter had one in high school. I had to take care of it when she went to college. Now it's back with her thankfully.

I have no suggestions because we tried to find a new home when she was ready for college. Maybe your mom should find a home for it.

Facebook, craigslist etc. Or surrender to animal control. If you can't find anyone to take it you can build it an outdoor pond which will be less maintenance due to larger size and natural sun, so no need for lighting and such, but eventually will probably need to be expanded since sliders get pretty large and live a long time. No great solution.

My mom gave my kid a red eared slider turtle last summer. He is a high maintenance pet that I am now taking care of.. Anyone know of a good way to find him a nice, new home? I will chick with pet stores but thought I would post here…
