Both points already mentioned by other posters, but it’s good that many if not most see these as benefits. Only a handful of schools still have open campus. It provides for a nice break in the middle of the day that helps rest and reset the mind.

I went to Whitman, but my impression of BCC is that the parents and students there are a lot more laidback. It’s definitely not the most socio-economically and racially diverse school in MCPS as a whole, but it’s the most diverse high school in the Bethesda/Chevy Chase/Potomac area of the county, and depending on where in the country you’re coming from, it could seem like a very diverse high school.

Overall, the parents there seem less pressed about boundary studies, their kids going to top colleges, and what backgrounds their kids friends come from compared to Whitman parents.

It's not really like that. It is a lot more diverse than nearby Whitman and many families live in condos in Bethesda.

You may want to visit the school or eat at nearby restaurants to get a feel for the area.

Your post reeks of entitlement.

Cross country is a no cut sport IIRC. Also they have club teams for sailing, ultimate frisbee, crew etc so your kid might find a new sport they are interested in?

It checks all the boxes imo. My son is a solid b+/a student, ecs and tons of friends. The school spirit is great. He doesn't feel "unsafe" or like the drugs are a thing.

It's a little more diverse but similarly low FARMS at least until they redo the boundaries when Woodward opens.

Some Pluses: The school is one of the oldest in the area, almost 100 years old. Students and the community are proud of the school’s legacy. The historic section of the school is beautiful, and the front lawn and shade trees add to the ambience. It’s located in a walkable neighborhood. Open campus is a plus (since most area high schools have closed campus). The school is one of the few that offers both comprehensive AP and IB courses of study. It’s a block away from the Bethesda Metro rail station, and close to the soon to open Purple Line light rail.

You'd be hard-pressed to find better. It has many academic solid opportunities. It is similar to a W in some respects but diverse and lacks all the racially motivated hate incidents. Lately, people have said there are severe drug problems at BCC, but I find it hard to believe that it's any different than any other HS.
