MCPS seems to be willing to go to court over this issue.

OP are you new here? MCPS is an enormous school system, and very bureaucratic. The curriculum materials and instruction varies much less from school to school than I think you realize.

Kids are not allowed to opt out of the curriculum. The only opt out is for family life and health in grade 5.

I’ll bite. Should we ensure that the curriculum and books don’t have families with two moms, two dads, or ethnically diverse kids either because it’s not “age appropriate?” What about Jewish or Muslim kids? There’s no difference if you replace trans with any of those subgroups. Early education is how we counteract stigma and discrimination.

Quick question—are books featuring “transitioning” or trans kids used in the curriculum K-5? Hopefully not in lower grades as the transitioning conversation is age appropriate for older kids like jr or high school. But want to know to have the most updated info.
