At minimum a half, which is just nice for guests, and full bathroom if you can.

Lol okay sure. There are four bedrooms and two bathrooms. You think their new addition should be two full bathrooms and a powder room?

As someone who has had an entire family down with a stomach flu at once, I want one toilet per tushy. I’m less concerned with the number of tubs/showers if there are at least two. If you’re renovating anyway, add at least a half bath.

For me, 3.5 would be a minimum
With kids. Primary bathroom, a power room for guests, kid bathroom and gift room with bath.

The minimum number of bathrooms I would be ok with is a half bath on the level with the living room and kitchen and 2 full bathrooms on the bedroom level (one for spouse and I and one for everyone else).

We have a four bed, 2 bath house and three young kids. Another full bathroom would be ideal but I’d really just love a half bath/powder room. We have a lot of guests and visitors. It’s challenging keeping the bathroom used heavily by us tidy enough for guests. Meaning, sometimes it would be nice to leave things on the counter but I generally try and keep it clean and clutter free. If I was ever to add on a half bath would be a priority.

+1 I'm so very glad we put in a 3rd bathroom when we put in our addition about 12 years ago. We've got 3 kids and a split foyer. The downstairs bathroom used to hardly get used at all but as the kids got older, there was more competition for the bathroom. It's so very nice not to have to share 'my' bathroom. My DD can take as long as she wants to get ready and require a certain level of cleanliness. The boys are responsible for the downstairs bathroom.

I mean, we can afford it but not easily/casually, it would mean we wouldn't have the money for other things in our lives that honestly feel a lot more important right now.

I would add at least a half bath. It would be good for guests to use. Also, as kids get older they spend more time in the bathroom caring for braces, putting on makeup, etc. Even with double sinks in the kids bathroom I often separate them because they take too long to get ready if they go in the bathroom together.

We have a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house and are planning out an addition. We have 2 young kids and have no need for an additional bathroom currently-- we honestly don't even use the second one we have very much-- so we're not inclined to spend the extra money to put another bathroom in the addition. But is that a mistake? As kids get older, how much difference does it make to have 2 vs 2.5 vs 3 bathrooms?

(If it matters, neither adult spends much time in the bathroom on morning routines/etc, although obviously that may not be true of our kids as they grow.)
