I mean I've never complained that my child wasn't given enough chances to turn something in so this isn't me taking things personally.
I also think the way messages are delivered matters. You may be "right" but if you're a jerk about it, you're still a jerk.

Agreed. And "striver." And all the assumptions in it. The assumptions and judgment are what gets me.

There are a lot of legitimate reasons a kid would have work being turned in late. Maybe your perfectly healthy kid has perfect attendance and never misses a day of school or an assignment but that isn't the case for everyone and people whose kids struggle more don't deserve to be jumped on.
While these reasons exist, they are much more rare than kids simply forgetting or futzing a round. It’s like adults paying utility bills late. The majority of the time, it’s not late because they had Covid or depression or a catastrophic tech crisis.

It goes both ways. You want grace for your kid, you need to be willing to extend that same grace to other kids AND your child's teacher. Everyone has those legitimate reasons things aren't happening on time, and assuming good intentions goes a long way.

These policies handicap students headed to college. They instill and reward bad habits. But I guess school districts don’t care what happens to students after they graduate.
