Why are parents so annoyed by recorder playing? So the kids sound bad for a few weeks maybe, so what? I'm not from a musical family and we moved around as a kid, so playing the recorder and a bit of self-taught piano (with my Mom's help) was the only instrumental music I ever learned... It was also the first experience for my son, who now plays the flute.
And if your kids already started piano at age 3 and violin at age 2, why is it so awful to also do recorder? (Presumably they'll pick up super fast in that case.) The amount of vitriol this gets in MCPS compared to the objective facts seems pretty over the top to me...

My kid was playing the recorder in utero so take that!

Why isn't it?

I have a 3rd grader in MCPS who has not learned the recorder this year yet...so I guess the program at her school has been stopped?

So funny the music teacher has wanted to get rid of the recorder program for years but is scared the parents would be upset I don't know where in her mind she thinks that parents actually want to attend a recorder concert?

Yeah, you should really be happy that your kid missed out on learning how to read music or becoming interested in playing music because it's too annoying for you.

My kid has been playing music since the age of 5.

Sure, Jan.

Yes. My fourth grade daughter is being taught to play it now. They started this year so I'm guessing 4th grade is the universal year for this in MCPS?

Do they still teach playing the recorder in MCPS? If so, what grade?
