I second the recommendations for OXO (in general) and GIR spatulas.
A flexible spatula is great for pan-frying and making pancakes - these aren't super cheap, but I use mine all the time. Wusthof is a good brand.
An offset spatula is really useful if you bake. Ateco makes reasonably priced ones.

Also, my very favorite utensils are OXO tongs. One set long, one set short, the heavier ones. I like the metal ends, not the plastic or silicone nonstick ones.
Those, and flat-bottomed scraping spoons. So much more useful than wooden spoon-shaped spoons.

Basic bamboo.
For a step up from that, OXO.
No-name silicone spatulas that Sweetie picks up anywhere.
If the ones you have are looking dingy, just rejuvenate them every so often with a little food-grade mineral oil. I do that once a month or so with all of our wooden/bamboo utensils and cutting boards. It's kind of soothing.

Chopsticks.
They can be used for almost anything. Trust me and 3 billion people in Asia. Wood/bamboo utensils are often cheap too.

+1. I recently discovered these and I love them. Also bought a full set of their other tools and they are all great. Dishwasher safe and heat safe up to 550 degrees.

Sick of using cheap, plastic or dingy wood utensils. Also don’t want to spend a small fortune at Williams Sonoma. Are there any good alternatives? Please share with me your most recommended cooking utensils!
