I watched it last night and I like her. She had a special a few years back about “I could have been your cell mate “
Anyway, it is very raw and powerful. I was amazed at how much her facial expression changed from old jolly to new edgy. It was a great performance! But not comedy.

I watched 15 min of her special. They should call it a one-person show or something. It was not funny but also wasn’t trying to be, it seemed. She seemed to be working through experiences from her childhood etc. it was more storytelling not comedy. Which is fine but don’t pull people in by making them think it will be funny. It was not.

Maybe, but I guess it depends. Maybe to her it was more important to take a stand for what she believed was right.

Serious question, how exactly would that work? How do you gain access to those people? Oh and F DL Hugley, he’s openly homophobic and when his daughter was sexually assaulted he didn’t believe her.

People are quiet about it because nobody really wants to talk bad about her, but her husband/manager serves her terribly and she's just not a nice person to be around. Apparently, they all wanted her to continue promoting Precious, after her contractural obligations were over and they wanted her to do it for free and on her dime. She politely declined to Oprah, telling her she needed a break. Oprah acted fine with it and, then she was labelled "difficult". She won an Oscar for her performance and then virtually disappeared. She simply wasn't getting roles for some reason...

I love her as an actress; I've never really watched her standup. Ive heard a lot of criticism about this special but I plan to watch it anyway.

I only watched half of the special. She's funny, but she cussed way too much for me and I cuss a lot! I couldn't remember what the controversy was with her so I looked it up. She was blackballed by Oprah, Tyler Perry and a director! I am glad she's coming back out strong, I just couldn't take the 1,000 n bombs and excessive cuss words.

I was not a fan of the special but I’ve never enjoyed her stand up comedy. Ironically I’ve always thought she was a great hostess for programs and award shows and she’s a fantastic actress.

Last night I watched Mo'nique's comedy special on Netflix, My Name is Mo'nique.

If it matters, I'm a white woman, early 50s. I've always been a fan of Mo'nique. I never watched The Parkers.

She's been filing and winning lawsuits. I'm always glad to see people stand up to bullies.

Any thoughts about her comedy show and how she talked about being from Baltimore?
