Every year, I look forward to the release of this quintessential Easter candy that I've enjoyed from as far back as I can remember. My mother would buy me at least a dozen boxes, knowing that they were only available for a limited time each year, and "release" one to me every week or so because I would definitely eat far too many if allowed.
This year, I bought my usual box of a dozen as soon as I saw them in the store, and I was horrified to discover that the eggs themselves were 2/3 the size (maybe even just 1/2, but it's hard to estimate) of the eggs in previous years. So, instead of being a good 2 bites per egg, which is sufficiently satisfying, they are only one biggish bite per egg. I suppose you could break it up into 2 very measly bites, but it hardly seems worth it.
I also saw a new 6-pack, which I thought maybe had the original sizes, but these were far too large! The chocolate to marshmallow ratio is completely off, and it's far too many bites per egg.
I'm assuming this has come down to shrinkflation and some calculation on the part of Russell Stover to make the eggs more profitable, but this alteration, in my opinion, completely alters the egg itself and thus the taste per bite because of the different ratios now involved. I'm very disappointed, and I just wanted to vent and to see if anyone else was as affected by this as I have been.
