This. There is some maintenance involved - we have an arborist come out once every few years, and have a little trimming done between visits. But SO worth it for the cooler backyard in the middle of summer.

+1 my idiot neighbors chopped down their oak trees because they thought they saw termites in the middle of winter. They tried to sue me and cut down the giant oak on my property. And now our other neighbor is suing them for causing flooding into their yard.

TLDR version: Talk to a real arborist before chopping down any mature trees on your property. And talk to your neighbors before trying to sue them.

It can be both OP. Desirable for all the obvious reasons, but undesirable when it comes to maintenance. My mom has a 80ft-90ft tall tree in her yard that has died. Cutting it down will run her $3K, and that's without the stump grinder coming in. It's also very dangerous if you don't know your tree is sick/dying and a limb falls onto someone or a pet. Or if it falls into someone's yard and harms them or their house.

If DCUM is any indication, your neighbors may think that you are responsible for any repairs should the trees fall - despite the fact that isn't the law.

Extremely desirable

We are looking at SFH in the Vienna/Oakton area and a lot of houses have well grown tall mature trees around the house or community. From a climate change perspective and & future perspective how desirable it is to have a house with lot of mature trees (think >70ft) around? Is that a plus or minus? Of course assuming everything else in the house checks out first - this is purely a qn around whether tall trees around houses hurt its future sale or its desirable?
