+1 to the bralettes. My daughter started wearing them around that age, especially for sports when they wore tank tops. It was more that many of the girls were wearing them. Now in middle school, she still likes women’s bralettes and often wears them instead of traditional bras.

Get her a kids sports bra style from Target. There are no cups to them. My now 10yo started wearing one at 9 for her martial arts because her shirt would tide up and there was development happening… she’s 10 now and wears one every day.

Lol...op here. I had wondered if she was too young for AYTGIMM, but I guess her asking for a bra makes her just the right age.

Does she play a lot of sports? My DD started asking for one in kindergarten because they had reversible pinnies for lacrosse and basketball. The tops were big on the girls and having the bralette/sports bra on really helped. Plus she could just flip her color on the field.

Go to Old Navy and get some of the sports bras. They great and come in some cute patterns.

She says she wants a bra, show her bralettes and ask if that is what she wants. Most girls start wearing bralettes at 9/10. And most of them don’t need them! This is probably why she is asking.

There are a lot of choices at Target. If they have pads, just take them out. Another popular choice is Old Navy.

This is not a big deal and very age appropriate.

It is great that she is comfortable asking.

Also, after you get her a “bra” she will probably wear them for about a week and then will be over it.

Mine started wearing one sometimes shortly after turning 9 without needing one. I think she was wearing one every day before 10. Now at 11, she definitely should be in a bra, though I still see a lot of girls at her stage of development not wearing one.

I just bought my 8 year olds a few bralettes to put in her drawer. She hasn’t asked me yet and likely won’t wear them for a while but I want her to have them when she feels the need for them. At 8-9 girls are developing in her class. She may not be but who is and isn’t wearing a bra does become a topic of conversation. No need for embarrassment. Just buy them.

This is not like asking for more surprise eggs. She’s asking you because she can’t get it for herself. Get her a bra, for goodness sake! She doesn’t need a good reason beyond “this is something I know is in my future and I want to experiment with it now.”

I would find out why she wants one and discuss what a bra is for - and say that you look forward to shopping for one when it's time. However, if she really insists and all the friends are wearing one, then they sell the ones that are basically camisoles but cut like a bra and get her one like that?

Get her the bras. Why die on the hill that she doesn't need them? She'll need them soon enough anyway.

9 yo wants but has no need for a bra. Seems silly to me, but I guess going along with it will be good in the long run to keep lines of communication open for "girl stuff"? I usually don't buy her stuff just because she wants it.
