In that case, I'd say they are a wash. Are you thinking about buying a place? Which area would you prefer to live in down the line? Both schools are mostly in boundary and play dates and friends and events all tend to occur in very local areas. Our kid can go a week or so without leaving a 10 block radius (school, friends, pool, soccer, playground, etc). They also walk to school/home with their friends after the 2nd grade.


Wow, after 2nd grade. That is so hard to imagine now with a 3 year old. We own our place now. Might consider moving in the future, but probably not for 4-5 years. We bike to the Palisades on the C&O Canal bike trail all the time to go to the water park, so I guess we feel more connected to that area.

Upper grades were good for my older kid; younger one is happy in 1st but I think there's been a lot of turnover in upper so not sure how it'll play out. Hope that helps

Can you explain Hardy vs. Deal? It seems like elementary inputs are comparable. Struggling to understand why school performance seems somewhat different in middle school.


Conditioning on race, the schools are very similar in performance. They have different racial makeups. Story of DCPS in a nutshell

We have a low wait list number for both. Any thoughts? Key would make our commute to work easier, but we drove past Hearst and noticed the nice DPR facilities next door and that piqued our interest. Curious if anyone has any thoughts/insight that might help us make this decision. Thank you.
