I guess this shows how school depended it os. Our school uses the cluster model generally, but math is separate class rooms starting in 3rd

The selection process is simple. LIV is selected by the Central Committee. All other services, LII, LIII, Advanced Math, and Principal Placed kids are selected by the school. Each school has its own process for each of the levels.

Our school uses SOLs and a math test at the beginning of the year for Advanced Math. I have no clue what the process it is for LII or LIII. Kids are added to LIII through out the year. Some kids drop LIII, mainly because attending means missing an hour of class and the kids need to make up the work that they missed. This has never been an issue for my kid but for some kids it means work sent home and the kid doesn’t want to do homework.

At our ES:

LII ends at second

LIV is selected by committee outside of our school and lasts through 8th

LLIV is decided by the principal, squeaky wheels can get it at our school, it ends after 6th grade

LIII is decided by the principal and ranges from a pull out to a meaningless designation

Advanced math at our school starts at 3rd and is decided by a combination of test scores and the principal. Kids doing poorly can be dropped down especially if there isn't enough room in the level 4 classrooms

My 6th grader who is in Gen Ed and advanced math is designated as LLII, which I wasn't aware of until I saw her report card.

Level II is available first grade through sixth grade. Services depend from school to school. Some schools have pull outs and others get extra worksheets.

Level III is available third grade through sixth grade. Services are supposed to be a weekly 1 hour pull out but not every school meets that. It depends on the AARTs availability. This normally covers LA and Social Studies and creative thinking. It does not include math advancement.

Advanced Math is available in third grade or fifth grade, it depends on the school. It is math advancement. Some center schools have Advanced Math kids join the LIV class for math, some center schools don’t. Kids starting in third grade cover third grade and some fourth grade math. Fourth grade covers fourth grade and fifth grade math. All fifth graders skip to sixth grade math.

LIV services is supposed to be a specific curriculum. It includes the Advanced Math curriculum. It sounds like Teachers adjust the curriculum based on the students abilities. Center schools take kids from feeder schools. Local Level IV is a program at a base school that normally has 1 class, larger ES might have 2 LLIV. LLIV tends to have Principally placed kids to fill out the class, these are normally kids in LIII or Advanced Math.

Level 2 last through grade 2, level 3 is something like advanced math starting at grade 3, then level 4 is full time aap.
