Why are you assuming OP's kids are in college?

They don't get any days off so it's a normal weekend like any other. Many college students celebrate with friends whose parents live nearby (like the PP who was instate only 70 miles from home).

Depends on how far away they are. My child’s college doesn’t cancel classes for the Friday before or Monday after, and they’re in California.

VT kids don't usually come home in our experience.

I was instate 70 miles from home and didn’t ever travel for spring break (and my parents would not have paid if I did) and I always went home for all holidays, major or minor.

I cannot imagine not coming home. Easter is a sacred holiday. I flew home and left on Thurs and back Monday. So worth it!

Brunch in Brookland or at Pennyroyal Station and a walk at the Arboretum, although I suppose it may be crowded.

generally not. It's so close to the end of the semester for many college kids.

Not sure where to recommend for Brunch but Riverbend Park in Great Falls (VA) is stunning with bluebells right now along Potomac path.

For our first empty-nester Easter, DH and I want to have a casual breakfast/brunch and go for a short hike (we want to be back by early afternoon to go to choral evensong at the Cathedral and dinner with friends). We live in CC MD, but are happy to travel for the right combo of restaurant and nature. TIA for your suggestions.
