6 or so I am local and we get together a few times a year for coffee/dinner. I didn’t realize it was that unusual to keep up with high school friends.

My twin sister is the only person from my high school that I have talked with in the last five years. But I don’t live in my hometown.

I am very close with one high school friend. Not in touch with anyone else. Interestingly, I didn’t become close with my high school friend until after high school.

Still very close with my core group of six from high school. We group text every day, take a girls trip all together every other year, and I see the ones nearby often. They are some of my best friends.

One person, that's it!

3, in real life. These are people I went to school k-12 with, 2 females and 1 male (I am female). All 4 of us happily married and our spouses like each other. We are now in 4 states, from FL to NY, one on the west coast and me, in the DMV. All 3 were at my wedding and I was at all three of theirs. For the 3 out of 4 couples that have kids, all are in college so we can, and do, travel easily to see each other for occaisional long weekends. My girl friends and I were all SAHMs, spouses and the guy friend all do different things (Computers/IT, laywer/politics, Telecom, and commercial real estate).

Contrast that with college, I am in touch with 1 in real life (no kids, consultant and economist)

I'm 37. I talk to 2. One lives about 45 min from me and we get together about every 6 weeks. We have been friends since we were 11. Sometimes we fall out of touch for a couple months but when we pick back up, it is like no time has changed at all. Second friend was from when we were 16. He lives on opposite coast with his family so we don't see each other often, maybe twice a year. But we text back and forth almost daily.

5-6 on Facebook. One I really wasn''t close to in high school, but we both turned out to have special needs kids and became buddies.

Two. One lives in my hometown so we don't see each other often, but talk and text. The other lives in the same area as me. We met at a K-8 and then went to the same high school.

3, and they all predated high school.

2 friends. Their career paths, while different fields from mine, look similar.

Two good friends, but they both predated high school. We’ve been friends since third grade.

I’m acquainted with two others from HS because we live in the same town now, and sometimes run into one another. We weren’t ever really friends in high school, though.

I live over 2000 miles away from my hometown and I have only seen one former classmate in person in about 15 years. I also gave up facebook so I don't even know what they're all up to now.

Uh like two, on Facebook. One I was friends with for a year but only IN school- we never hung out or anything. And the other I lived near but we weren’t friends. She just added everyone on Facebook. Sometimes we comment on each other’s stuff.

I left high school and basically never looked back.

Do these friendships ever last, or do they just fizzle never to be seen again once everyone goes to college? It feels like college is when you make your real connections that you can use in the ‘real world’.
