if a girl goes through recruitment and maximizes her options all the way, she will get a bid somewhere. it may not be any of the houses she hoped for. if she does not maximize options, she might end up without a bid.

Not much has changed over the years with “elite” at say, UIUC or UVA, it’s always Theta, usually the best-looking, most connected (VIP parents), and wealthiest. If you look at old yearbooks it’s eerily the same look

My daughter goes to an ACC school and less than 20% of students rush. She chose not to and knows very few people who went Greek. It's there for those who choose it but there are tons of other things available too.

SEC is a whole different ballgame than Big 10 and ACC.

No matter how amazing your daughter is, unless she knows A LOT of girls in a house, she will get maybe one to “choose” mid week. It will be the one that takes everyone because they’re new and need to increase membership. Anyone raised in the south will be horrified by the thought of joining this one but if you’re from other parts of the country, it’s perfectly fine. It’s a horrible week for everyone, including the older girls forced to participate or else they get fined. No one nice enjoys it because it’s a lot of hurt feelings all week.

It is my understanding that everyone makes a house- it just might not be the one you are hoping for.

DD is current in a SEC sorority. I see all shapes, sizes and skin colors in the sororities. There are a few that are "old row" and they are the ones the traditionally stick with Alum, with some new girls sprinkled in, in short, your DD will do fine. Please tell her not to be intimidated, it's actually a more welcoming environment than most people (especially on DCUM) would lead you to believe.

You can get into a sorority, but it might not be the one you want. The “top” sororities are starting to be more racially diverse, but everyone is still normal weight with straightened hair and makeup. Wealth matters, especially if you don’t know sisters in the house. I’ve heard they figure this out by looking at your instragam, what high school you went to, and even looking up your family home on Zillow. That being said, I know people who were in “middle” or “lower” tier sororities who have had great experiences. There is a sizable percentage in the “top” houses who aren’t happy.

There are sororities for all who want to join.
