Well if a teacher inflates your kids gradebthey should inflate all the grades hence making grading meaningless. Teacher here. I would not appeal for a grade change for quarter 3 unless there is a major error. Your kid has quarter 4 to turn things around.
Have the kid talk to the teacher. If the teacher genuinely made an error, they can bump up a couple of grades in q4 to make up for it.
If you go straight to an appeal, you will damage the relationship your student has with the teacher.
Finally, some assignments are never entered into the grade book but teachers assign them for additional practice and mastery.

Grades were due for MCPS submitted in Synergy by 3pm Friday 3/31. I don't know how extensions work, but teachers can fill out a form for a grade change when we get back to class.

If you do not trust the teacher to do so, there is a formal process to appeal the grade. A form has to be filled out within 45 days of the end of the marking period.

I am a long term sub for MCPS. I can tell you that my teacher, while an amazing human and incredible educator, left me with a bit of a grade mess. That said, Canvas kept eating my grades (sigh), and syncing to Syngery was hit or miss. I had to manually enter in so many grades to Synergy, even when I already put them in Canvas. And I cleared up some of the errors happening with the sync. For some of the less tech savvy teachers, this process is cumbersome.

Give your teacher some grace, but be ready to appeal on April 11th to cover your butt. And do talk to the teacher about a grade change. You jist don't want to miss the 45 day window.

DC is in the same situation. DC's teacher said a few assignments that had been submitted but not yet graded will be graded. This was last Thursday - last day of MP3, and as of now grades have not been updated.

If she's absolutely positive that she should have the A, I would have her (yes her, not you) talk with the teacher once classes are back in session.

“Matters for college admissions”? She still has a chance to get an A in the course, and applications aren’t due until the fall. Her life won’t be ruined if the B stands, and even if it gets reversed, all the better. This isn’t something to get worked up about over spring break.

We thought that the deadline had come and gone, but apparently the teacher got some sort of extension. The bigger concern is that your Junior is “devastated” over a B

Technically, they have to talk to the counselor but it’s rare and requires a high burden of proof. If the daughter has a B this semester, she’ll probably get an A next semester. B A is an A, and that final grade goes on the transcript.

It's not true that grades can't be changed if there was an error, for instance, a teacher not grading an assignment that was turned in. So don't necessarily despair. The ones that grade everything at the end are a problem - and I'm a teacher so I know the amount of work put on everyone. But it's not good for students to not know where they stand, roughly at least, and be able to prioritize accordingly the last week or two. I'm talking in a high school context, of course.

Your daughter should be the one sending the reminders. Grades were to be submitted before spring break and can’t be changed. Onwards to the 4th quarter with less assignments and more frequent events, reducing the number of actual classes and making tests easier. Plus everyone’s exhausted from the year at this point.

The quarter is over. The grade is what it is. That said this is MCPS a B in quarter 3 plus an A in quarter 4 = an A for the semester. The semester grade is all that appears on their transcript. Let it go and look to the next quarter.

Grades should all be in. Are you sure this isn’t the final grade?

The last assignments of the quarter sometimes count for the next quarter. DD’s teachers have done this.

DS did have a teacher that graded past the end of year deadline… it was very frustrating, so if that’s really the case, I sympathize!
