I started mine on Meet-up in 2014. Only one person I knew came along. Still going strong today!

I think saying women only and giving an age range and type of book really helped people decide to come.

I formed my first book club mainly on Craiglist. I invited one friend who I already knew, she invited a friend of hers, and I posted on Craiglist to recruit more. I expected to get some weirdos but ended up making 4 new friends with amazing and intelligent women. The book club fell apart when a few moved out of state, we started marrying/having kids, etc. This was back in 2007-ish -- I probably would not attempt the same thing on Craiglist today.

My current book club was formed by one of the members of the aforementioned club about a year ago.

I know someone else who formed hers using Nextdoor. I like that idea because you could restrict your post to your neighborhood only, that way all the hosting would be close by!

I started one by reaching out to the neighborhood listserv. It has worked out well. Like-minded people and I've made some friends I see outside of book club.

A couple moms who have kids at the same school, they each brought a friend.

I found mine through local groups on Facebook.

My sisters and cousins started a book club. We join the zoom even if we haven’t read the book just to catch up with relatives who live far away.
