So why is the tutoring not continuing into the summer?

Haven't tried FEVTutor. TutorMe, which is virtual 1:1 tutoring doesn't seem so bad. Had a bit of a hiccup with our first match but now that we've got one it's good.

Why would you work a $20 job and not work $40 under the table

Not everyone can get students easily. We have a huge range of tutors from retirees to college students.

My point is that many kids who need it will lose it. Obviously if they have to cut it makes sense to give it only to the neediest kids. But endless snark is necessary to some people, I guess.

The neediest students often get more in school supports. It’s the rest of ours that don’t draw attention that need it and will lose it. It’s been fantastic for my kid.

Many of us could not pay given how much tutors cost.

That’s too bad. I’m grateful for having it and hope we can just private pay some of the tutors we have.

MCPS probably pays a flat rate, so the only one advantaged by controlling the flow of students is the tutoring company.

I wish it is in person program. Virtual program does not work with my kid at all.

MCPS can’t teach our kids in classrooms. For a carry of reasons, it’s not working.

This is almost like offering parents ‘school choice’ without the political push back of offering school vouchers in a heavily Democrat county.

So, taxpayers are now paying private companies to provide the education that MCPS cannot provide.

Parents and teachers like the program so I bet it gets extended.

We’ve been taking advantage of the free vendor-provided tutoring for our child at MCPS. I’m trying to figure out for how long this will continue to be offered, and found this document on the MCPS website:

https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/council/Resources/Files/agenda/cm/2023/20230216/20230216_EC1.pdf

Based on slide at 37, it looks like starting in 2025, it will only be available to the students who are most behind:

“For FY25:
○ Program will contain the most effective tutoring programs based on evaluation.
○ Serve only students two to three grade levels below & pathway for non-College
and Career ready students.”

Am I reading this right? If so it’s such a shame because it’s been so helpful.
