I absolutely would. It's not to my taste at all, and I'd want to gut every single room.

To build a row of townhouses, each selling for over $1.5 million? In a heartbeat.

Townhouses in actual walkable parts of Arlington like Lyon Village are less than 1.5M. Who is the market for an expensive townhouse nowhere near any amenities?

To build a McMansion, no.

It may not be "historic" in the ante-bellum sense but it's a heck of a lot nicer than most Arlington houses.

Oh well, more hideous crap there, whether for one family or six. The new owners don't exude anything other than their own egos.

I read the other thread and coming back to say it doesnt really qualify as a historic place to save. And the history of it is .. well.. not worth preserving IMO

It’s gorgeous. What a shame that would be!

People already consider midcentury moderns historic and get upset when they are torn down. Why should this house be exempt?

That aside, as houses go, this is a handsome one that actually looks older than 1950 (I'd first thought it was a 1920s house). But would I protest to prevent it from being torn down? Unless there was something special about the context, no.

How is this historic???
It was built in 1950!

I can’t imagine tearing this down, but if it was built in 1950, it’s hardly “historic.”

I would tear it down but for something less rickety than this home or a Mc mansion

This has very "The Shining" vibes, so.... it would need to be torn down.

I wouldn’t because it is so wasteful but it’s not all that historic - the house was built in 1950.

The new owners of this historic mansion in N. Arlington want to tear it down and for a new build. Could you do it?
