Quad Jobs allows you to look for local college students. You can pick an elementary education major which is what we have done. You can post your needs and a closed pool of college students will respond if interested.

It's worked very well for them. Some say that they can provide weekend services during the day as well as can watch kids on school days off (because they're high schoolers and are off that day too) for $100 day or whatever.

I'd love to find a babysitter for $20 who will take my kids to the park for an hour on the weekends. Run them hard, play games with them, and then bring them back tired for naps. Like a dog walker!

Not OP; but teens advertise on our listserv too. Though we just use the teenage girls next door. It is a win-win. We're in DC proper. Pretty sure it was similar when I was a kid, though then teens would put flyers up on poles too.

I wish I knew someone like OP’s child. We have one of DC’s daycare teachers as a somewhat regular sitter.

I found all mine on Care.com or through friend recommendations.

MD or VA?

VA but why does it matter? Surely girls babysit in Maryland?

Nextdoor is best. Also, flyers to nearby neighbors. Sittercity or care.com are possibilities, but my daughter found that most people were looking for older sitters or nannies.
Some elementary school PTAs maintain a list of potential babysitters so you might ask there.
For your daughter's safety, I would NOT put a flyer in a public spot or use Craigslist.

My teen wants to start babysitting in the local community. Where do you guys look first to find a sitter, assuming it isn't a personal referall? Nextdoor? Craigslist? Care.com?

Thanks.
