I personally know an APS admin type job (not school-base) who is not allowed to telework at all.

I had the opportunity to work there but chose not to because I can't stand the culture there, but now I question my own choice. Working at Syphax does sound like a dream job after you stopping caring about educating kids.

Disagree. Essentially APS treats its central office staff better than its school based staff, this is not fair to say at least.

Central office staff aren't supposed to WFH, but many offices do it secretly, starts with the supervisor of that office WFH one day, then her direct report does the same next time she has to stay home for whatever reason. I guess they figured as long as Duran doesn't find out then who cares. In addition, when they WFH, they aren't really working at all. I had to call a Syphax person a couple of times, both times she was "WFH" so I couldn't reach her, emailed her and try to connect on Teams, eventually I gave up and had to wait for her to return to office. This is unacceptable. They have 60+ days of leave, yet they won't take them! Saying they are working from home but probably out shopping. I am sick of the central office.

I suspect if it wasn't for the gifting of all the additional holidays to syphax (e.g. 2 week winter break, spring break, thanksgiving, and all the new religious holidays) people wouldn't be so upset about the work from home. The work from home is not really the problem- its the massive gift of additional holidays to 12 month employees.

As an APS teacher, i am so tired of so many inept and non-responsive Syphax people. And yes, I know some WFH.

I’m a NP.

I think we can argue teachers need better support, more flexibility and paid sick time. But I don’t think we need to take away another group’s benefits to do that.

I disagree, I think everyone should have plenty of sick leave. I use mine when a kid is sick, do you want me to half ass my job while providing childcare instead just because I can do it from home? Waste of taxpayer money!

I do think forcing school based staff to blow through leave if their jobs could be done remotely is unfair though.

OP here, yes, I know as a fact this is happening, but I am an APS staff too, if I go speak at school board meeting about this, I will have to give out actual names of people at Syphax, which I can, but I don't want to put myself in that kind of position.

Now that the general public knows APS Syphax (central office) staff have a absurd amount of paid days off, do you also know that in addition to those paid leave, they can also work from home? They work from home a lot, I guess they don't want to use any of those leave days they have, so they get to "work from home" when they feel like it. For your reference, APS teachers cannot work from home, staff who work in school buildings whose job can be done remotely also are not allowed to work from home. If a school building based staff got COVID, he/she MUST take 5 days of leave, versus at central office, if a staff got COVID, he/she can "work from home" and don't use any leave. Or if a school building based staff needed to meet a handyman at home, he/she must take leave, versus at central office, staff can just "work from home" to meet their handyman.

This 2-tiered system within APS has to stop.
