We live 1.2 miles from the restaurant, it takes between 5-8 min to drive there depending how you hit lights. I ordered over the phone and the cashier asked how much I want to tip the driver. I said $5 and she exclaimed, “this is an $80 bill!” so I ashamedly said okay $8.
I’d appreciate thoughts on what is reasonable tipping in this situation. I would appreciate not being lambasted - if $8 or more is appropriate in the current times, let me know, I’ll do it forward going and never post about it again
My thoughts were that the driver had the same minimal work no matter if my bill was $25 or $80, and that I wound up paying $10 in delivery fee/tip for a $70ish pre tax order. Isn’t the delivery fee so the restaurant pays them a slightly higher wage, and then I added $5 for a short drive- seemed reasonable to me.
