Ask yourself, "How does anyone that doesn't have a kid at a school know anything about it?" I guess the 1900+ applicants this year don't think it's trash.

I have a 9th grader there, you know the non-test in crew that's supposedly not smart We came from a private K-8 and the big shock is the amount of responsibility placed on the students. It's definitely more collegiate vs nurturing. So far the school has been challenging and engaging with no behavioral issues. My kid does an outside extracurricular six days a week so it's been the appropriate balance. You're the only one that knows what's best for your kid. So proceed accordingly.

We are at Walls for 9th and happy. DD has friends who are at BASIS and deeply unhappy about the social issues there. Sounds like small school, smaller cohort every year, less chances to change your friend group and find your people. If you have your people already, then leaving BASIS for Walls might not make sense.

Walls is not going downhill. Those are people who didn't get in. My kid didn't either for that matter. For some, maybe it would behoove you to forgo your spot at Walls so that their kid on the WL has a chance.

And you think asking a BASIS question on DCUM is a means to that end? Really???!!! May I suggest instead that perhaps you are a drama momma who likes to stir the pot?

Mine is on the fence. Has had a great experience at BASIS . . . but Walls is where a lot of her elementary school friends will go (so a reunion of sorts).

What does your kid want to do? Most kids I know have a strong preference for either staying or leaving Basis.

Interesting, as I don’t hear lots of complaints about behavior.

I’m curious about teacher quality. I also wonder whether my child would benefit from a larger graduating class.

Just visit and really depends on your kid. Walls is a Humanities school which is a big change from Basis. It is truly a sink or swim environment.

I would say BASIS.

1) Since doing away with the entrance exam, Walls has gone downhill.

2) Who wants to repeat courses at Walls that you have already done at BASIS? A lot of needless repetition of coursework.

3) Walls doesn't offer a lot of advanced courses. For example, no AP Bio this year.

4) Walls is weak in STEM

5) Average SAT score at BASIS is higher and college admissions per capita are better.

6) Red Giants is better than Penguins.

Walls seems like it’s headed in the wrong direction.

Basis all the way. We were also in the same position. Post Covid walls is just not the same.
