I'm an ACPS parent. I manage several people at work who live in MD and their kids use their grandparents' addresses in Del Ray or Old Town to go to ACPS. I can't for the life of me figure out why. My husband and I had no idea when we moved here 10 years ago all the issues with ACPS. We thought it was this quaint 1 HS, 2 MS environment. We should have just stayed in DC. We wanted a quick commute and a walkable neighborhood like DC.

Those is FCPS do this all the time to live in cheaper better house. They pay less taxes and get to cheat to go to the better schools.

The BS that parents pull to go to a school system or stay in one is ridiculous.

I am a teacher and it is a problem and should be reported. Overcrowding is an issue. We have kids that do this a LOT in Arlington. it is common in FCPS to get into certain pyramids - fake addresses etc.

Report them all. This kind of crap hurts the system. To those that are not paying the taxes (living in one jurisdiction over another) to those that are self imposing gerrymandering with fake addresses to be in a different pyramid. Schools and school systems would probably would equal out more if parents (who rules don't apply to them) would go to the school where they actually live and be in the community.

Good on you for doing what is right.

Jokes on them. ACPS schools are just as bad as DC and likely much worse than MD.

We just had a family move in down the street a few months back, I think that they are renting. My kids found out their kids are going to ACPS and we live in FCPS. I was kind of shocked and reported the family to the registrar. Is this a thing? Why move out of a district and do this?

The kid is probably finishing out the year. No one is choosing Alexandria Schools over Fairfax. What was your reasoning behind reporting someone?

+1. Principals have a lot of discretion in this kind of thing, and it is very likely the kids are being allowed to finish out the year. If they are low income or have some sort of other special circumstance there may be other reasons they can continue in ACPS.

Meh, it's more a myth than a thing.

Wow. Can't believe anyone would want to actively keep their kids in ACPS.

Mind your own business! There are multitude of legitimate reasons a student might be able to stay enrolled in their prior school.

Why would you do such a thing? Jesus Harry Christ. What is actually WRONG with you?

For one thing, it's the end of the year. For all you know, they have permission to finish out the year. That's quite common.

But you really need to do some self-reflection on why you are such a nasty individual whose first impulse is to assume the worst about people you don't know. Wow. Were you born with this character defect or is this learned behavior from a poor upbringing?
