I had been telling my teen DS this for a while. He finally took a guitar class as his art credit in HS, and then looked online to teach himself how to play some music.

I had played guitar in my youth. I learned this early on, and I'm a woman. I told DS that there is something about a man who can play music (and sing) that seems to attract women.

Another PSA: if your teen DS wants to meet hetero females, join the theater club/drama dept.

I’ve had a similar experience but its because of Pedro Pascal being everywhere right now. Apparently, I look a LOT like him. Women come up to me at work or happy hours and open conversations, want to take pictures (awkward) and hang out.

Where was this ugly bastard when I was single? Seriously, f* Pedro Pascal.

You can get a lot of women in college if you know how to play the guitar well. It is like shooting fish in a barrel. It is probably late for you son since he is already a college freshman. Learning a few guitar chords is easy but it is not easy to play an actual song like Senorita by Shawn Mendes.

I am one of those women, and tbf my actual dating profile said "no guitar players please." But the fact is having a hobby is attractive unless and until he's using it to escape bedtime duty.

There is something about musicians, I have to say.

My DH plays guitar (he played in a band that actually opened for some big acts, so he's decent). He is also 6'3".

We don't always get along, but he's objectively attractive.

My cousin and I, both of us are average looking, around five on a scale of ten. We took seven photos both indoors and outdoors, and used them in their profile on match.com and bumble sites. In the description, we stated that we are young professionals with a good salary working in hi-tech, looking for a romantic relationship. We also listed that we both played D1 college sports. After six weeks on match and bumble sites, they got a few hits here and there. We also reached out to about 50 ladies but got rejected by almost all of them. In other words, it was pretty much a failure.

In the seventh week, we replaced four of the pictures from the profile with pictures that showed us with acoustic and electric guitars. In the description, I said that we play guitars as a serious hobby and added a few links on YouTube that recorded music that we play such as Eric Clapton, Miley Cyrus, John Mayer, etc.. Within three days, we were flooded with requests from women who were interested in going out with us, many of them were the same ones who rejected us before.

Bottom line, you will go from a five to a ten if you know how to play a musical instrument, especially a guitar. Glad I didn't give up on guitar when I was 14 years old.
