Even the newest reports suggest that tech is a skill where remote can work longer term. That’s not any role working for a tech firm, but a tech role for any company.

I think it’s hilarious that journalists are pushing so hard for ‘everyone hates wfh and it doesn’t work!’ As the narrative.


I will continue to say, once I see executives cite problematic WFH on an earnings call, I’ll believe it. Until then, it’s not as big an issue as a select few are making it out to be.

Same. Hybrid with some flexibility works for me.

Hybrid, one day a week. Every morning that I go in I complain to myself and every evening I'm glad I went because I had productive conversations I wouldn't have otherwise had.

We are asked to go in 3x per week, days of your choice (policy since last fall) and the most recent report to the partners was that we’re getting just under 50% compliance.

Some are pushing to ramp up the pressure. Mainly the admin partners—heads of offices, practice group heads, etc. Others (including me) couldn’t care less where people work, and I will probably lateral elsewhere or retire early if they ever try to enforce the policy. I generally go in once a week, plus a fair amount of client travel (though much less than pre Covid).

We are not going back full time ever. They quit renting one of our three buildings altogether.

My company has gone all in on a remote/hybrid model despite the fact that’s it’s not working out very well for day-to-day operations. They continue to hire people all across the country who never have any intention of moving to where the main office is located and there’s just weirdness between the locals who can and do work in person occasionally, and know each other well, and those who are far away and just faces on Zoom. I’m only 6 months in and think it’s a bit of a disaster, but I’m so curious to see how it all shakes out.

Nobody is in the office 5 days a week anymore unless you work in a SCIF or your boss hates you. Stupid, small minded mentality.

I’d be happy to go back to the office, except they took away our parking stipend and parking went up 25%. Give me back my parking stipend and I’ll give you your confirmed office days per week.

I live 4 miles from my HQ office. The office is way too small for more than the people who work there. I sometimes will go on site to another lab that belongs to a subcontractor. I work remotely full-time.

There are beginning to be a lot of articles chronicling the RTO. Here are two very recent ones from the WSJ. There are some interesting graphs in the second article, which references a newly released Department of Labor report on work arrangements. What’s happening at your firms?
