It was a form of aftercare. Is that the model, OP, or are you actually saying that the preschool is charging extra for things that happen during school hours? Where do they put the kids that don't pay? The basement?

I toured a daycare (part of my federal agency) that had these as add-ons you paid for. It bothered me in principle that some kids would be left out.

Exactly! Agree 100%. $2800 for 2 years old. Their marketing department working well. They know how to get $$$ from the parents!

I assume you mean Bethesda Country Day School. Our DCs went there a few years ago. Those are extras where they pull them out of regular class and have them do the activity with an outside instructor (in the same building). We did some of them, but not many. My main concern was having them pulled from regular "instruction" for it.

They get art and the usual stuff in their regular class anyway, so it's only if you want to focus on extras. We had ours doing ballet.

I know preschool, and daycare, are incredibly expensive. And, the requirements are also challenging. The largest expensive is staff income, and there are limits as to number of students by age.

Join the board and ask to take a look at their books and see if you can figure out another solution, but I promise you, even through the expenses are incredibly high for parents, no one at the preschool is rolling in dough.

Other schools/dsycares bring in outside music, yoga, ballet, etc snd its included in the fees and all students participate..I agree with OP, seems excessive to have parents pay an extra fee for these classes instead of integrating them into the whole school/part of the school day for all children

I just went for a tour, I will never put my kid in that old building and pay $2800 per month, I am not crazy.

Why don’t you switch schools? There are lots of other options that are less expensive.

In my opinion, Art, Soccer, Yoga, and Music are normal activities for kids in childcare. I went to Bethesda Country School and learn that on top of $2700 I have to pay extras. That building is 100 years old with paint cheeping everywhere, how they can charge so much? Are these parents are crazy?
