My baby was sick the first 2 weeks at daycare then he was fine, happy boy

It's normal to get sick. Kids needs to be expose to germs to build a good immune system

My friend did baths and clothes change as soon as they got home from daycare. I just did hand washing. Not sure if it made much difference. The sick leave we took at daycare was brutal on our jobs and adds insult to injury considering the cost. But most of my friends that had Nannies experienced similar - kids from 1-2 are just constantly getting sick.

Not really.. but their immune systems become much stronger within the first year at daycare.

I will add that this probably wouldn't have helped in the early days when she was building up immunity, but I notice fewer colds and illnesses now that I feed DD strawberries, oranges or apples every day.

Yep. And if it wasn't now it would be kindergarten. Inevitable once they start mixing with other children.

Ride it out and, honestly, OP, what got us through this period was having really low standards. My metric for keeping kid home is lethargy/energy level. If she doesn't have the energy to participate and is just miserable, I don't send her. Otherwise, she goes to daycare even with a mild cold. If I didn't have this standard she would never be at daycare and we could not work. Would also exclude for fever and vomiting/diarrhea. But just runny nose/cough/etc., she goes to school if she's not that sick.

How old is your DC? If they’re older you can try to teach them about not putting their hands in their eyes, nose and mouth but IME the earliest that they are able to actually stop themselves from doing it is around 4.

A cool mist humidifier seemed to help my child through the continuous snot parade.

Normal adjustment period. Good sleep, and healthy food are important as well.

Masks. Immune support via vitamin/supplements/good nutrition. Reinforce great hand washing. Shower or bath as soon as kids get home, and wash hands every time you get back home from anywhere.

DC started daycare, after two weeks he was sick with a cold which progressively got worse. He’s been out for a week. I expect to start again on Monday since the fever is gone. Is there anyway to decrease the likelihood of another round of illness?
