My mother and her siblings called one of their grandmothers "Mom." I don't know why. But she always called her mother "Mother," so I guess there was no confusion.

I grew up in New England, where roughly 50 percent of grandmothers are called Nana. It Is the farthest thing from pretentious.

My twins call my mom Grandma Cookies because she brought them cookies right after they started talking. It was a smart move on their part because she feels like she has to live up to her moniker.

No. My father in laws name is Joe. The first grandchild couldn’t say that and it came out Yo. He’s now Papa Yo. We all think it’s cute.

My MIL goes by Nana and it grates on me, I just hate it, it's so pretentious. That is all, just a vent. Why couldn't she pick a normal name like grandma?
